Mobile wars

Mobile phones never fascinated me and I was of the opinion that mobile phones are to be used no more than calling, receiving calls and texting. The built in alarm in the mobile is a must and often I felt that alarm was more important that the phone itself. My roomie, Prashanth on the contrary is a very much mobile person. He cannot even survive a day or a night with out his mobiles. When I was finding it hard to carry one small mobile, he carries one in each of his pant pockets. Also he is the one who keeps the telecom companies going. Every mobile irrespective of its size and colour has a monthly bill as its life partner. 20,000 INR and 2,200 AUD in a single month’s bill were exorbitant. I have never seen such huge bills in my life. Travelling to India and back in a first class once in three months would be cheaper.

I entrusted with the job of buying the best mobile for me to Prashanth and in a few weeks a PDA was waiting for me. It was a much more than a mobile. It had all the features that my laptop had, in fact more; you can even make calls. So I inserted my SIM card into the new mobile and I was just PDA’ing away. My old cute little mobile was soon forgotten and was lying somewhere below my bed.

The next day I carried my new mobile in my pockets to office. The weight of the mobile was slowing my speed of walk. Every time I unknowingly hit the mobile, it would pain terribly in the hands. The touch screen was making me go crazy and my hands would often strain holding the PDA close to my ears and talking for some time. I survived for a day with the technically advanced gadget and even before I reached home, I was searching for my old mobile. Luckily I found it still lying in the house, I held it close, wiped the dust off and put the SIM back into the old and loyal mobile and switched it on. And lo, its working perfectly fine as ever with out even complaining about the ignorance and lost feeling that it experienced when I just ditched it a day ago.

Now it’s the time for the JASJAM to go in to the closet as my old mobile has won a victory against the latest in technology..
