Kuala Lumpur

After getting a transit visa at the immigration counter in Kuala Lumpur, Pushpendar and I went straight to the Allson hotel in KL. We deliberately parted ways with Sushmitha and Shiana as we wanted the freedom of travelling around the city all by ourselves. We checked into a hotel which looked no different than an average motel in India. We had a quick shower and walked out of the hotel ignoring the calls of the taxi drivers standing at the hotel entrance. We walked out and found a local hotel serving breakfast. I told them that we were looking out for some local food specialties. The boy at the hotel was amused by the English language and he called out to a girl in the kitchen. She came running to us and asked something in Malay. Malay is the native language. I presumed that she was asking me what we wanted for breakfast and I asked her, what all do they serve. Even she dint understand the slightest English. Now this time I was amused and Pushpendar was getting restless with hunger. Then the wonderful idea of using the sign language struck my brilliant mind and I showed her that we needed some food. She smiled and hopefully understood what we need. She pulled us by our hands and took us to a table with lots of different food stuffs served on it. Then she pulled out two plates, put some boiled rice, also put some pieces of chicken which looks similar to the KFC drumsticks. She showed us a variety of curries and asked us our choice. We were confused seeing the large variety of curries. She was smart enough to understand that we were in a state of food confusion; she gave some of the curries which she felt is the best. We took our plates and sat on a table which was located under a ceiling fan. That was the first time I ever had rice as breakfast. Pushpendar dint complain about the rice and he started eating the rice from the plate. I tasted the food and it was very good and tasted much similar to curries prepared in Kerala. As we were eating and relishing, the guy came back and asked something which I never understood. I told him the food is really good. He was excited and called the other two girls to the table and I again reiterated that the food was excellent and they promptly understood and also gave two cups of tea. We licked the plates clean and then we sipped the cup of tea. It was not so good when compared to the Indian tea. We had a few more sips of tea and waited for the bill. The bill of RM 11.50 arrived in a piece of paper which was cut out of a cigarette carton. We paid the bill and were out on the road again and we were more confused than earlier. There were neither busses nor bus stops in sight. We went back to the hotel and this time we approached the taxi driver for the city tour and he quoted RM250 for a 4 hr city tour. As we were only two of us, we included a Sri Lankan guy who was on his way home from Melbourne. So we three set out for the KL city tour. We visited the Palace of the Sultan, the twin Petronas towers, the Minera tower and some other places in the city. The taxi driver was an Indian settled in Malaysia and he took us to an Indian street which looked the same as any street in Chennai. We came back drained out of energy to the hotel and just picked our bags and headed straight to the airport.
